Research themes

The Thomas Ashton Institute’s research themes cover key subject areas where The University of Manchester and the Health and Safety Executive have strengths and depth in topics that underpin risk and regulatory research. These include Living and Infrastructure, Resilient Net Zero, and Workplace Health and Wellbeing.

Each theme is underpinned by cross-cutting research platforms that foster collaboration, integrate diverse expertise, and ensure that research is both interdisciplinary and impactful. This structure enables the Institute to address complex, real-world challenges and contribute to safer, healthier, and more sustainable environments.
